While I agree with what you wrote, it's not just hockey. You can write a piece like this for just about every industry. It's just how life is.

Doesn't make this any less valid. If we're fixing this then let's FIX THIS instead of just going "Oh well other stuff is bad too."

It's impossible to fix without fixing stuff that actually matters first.

If every pipe in your house leaks, you can't fix the basement until you replace the pipes.

Nah that's a kind of disingenuous argument. We're talking about a systemic failure here that promotes this kind of culture. We're not trying to solve society's ills here, just fix the ones in hockey that make it so much worse.

People suck, sure, but lets not let that stop us from trying to make things better anyway.

Well said Sean. It shouldn't have taken this amount of press, sponsorship pull-ou, et al for the top to make the right choice. It will be a monumental task to right whats wrong but its loooooong overdue.
It shouldn't be an elitist sport but it has become that. The fundamentals have been lost and the business of the game became more important than the protection of those playing it. Its not new, and EVERYONE was aware but few spoke out, and those who did were often ostracized and driven out of the game, while those who have abused power have stayed. Hopefully that changes starting today.

Excellent, thought-provoking article...and I RARELY read bloggers other than...Jeremy Laura's (NOT advertising....).

We, as a society, need to place solid moral values in our children: Have to moral courage to fight the hard fight v. pass off the easy wrong. Our children are our future, and are of value to us, their parents, and the future. We must know that those in whom we place trust, are trust-worthy. And the almighty dollar dosen't supplant our moral obligation to care for our (collective) children.

It can no longer be said: That's just the way it is. It must stop. Those who fail to take a stand are culpable, no matter the name or position.

Excellent write-up.

Don't forget creepy billionaire owners pay out $$ to sleep with ballerinas or actors that are as old as their own children.

Katz is a creepy dude and has probably done some shady poop. But the thing with the dancer I believe was already proved to be bs. He hasn’t lived in Edmonton for a long long time so why would he have a 780 number. He’s lived in California for almost a decade. And during the time it allegedly happened he was undergoing a lot of serious health issues.
The first one just says he made offers. Not that anything happened.

But you can't make things better without addressing the people suck part. The problems in hockey can't be solved because they're a problem everywhere.

The biggest problem is parenting. Until we find a way to get the majority of parents to do the absolute minimum to raise their children to respect everyone, which is an impossible tast, there's no way to fix the problems plaguing hockey right now. Our society is going to continue to let people with power take advantage of people without.

Nice piece Sean.

You didn't even mention the poop that went down with Simmons...

The culture around the sport is getting absolutely dragged, as it should be.

I've seem a video on youtube about some kind of parade where half naked men wearing leathers and chains waved their groins in the faces of little kids while the parents laughed and the crowd cheered.

I've seen another video where men in outrageous drag were encouraging little 6 year old girls to stroke their penises while the parents laughed and the crowd cheered.

I've seen pictures of little girls no older than 15 showing the scars from their "chest masculization surgery" or their double mastectomies if you will. Indoctrinated minors being mutilated without the parents being legally permitted to intervene.

I've watched a video of this sad 20 year old little girl who had been fed years of hormones so she could transition to a male and now regretting that decision made when she was a minor and despairing over the changes that have occurred in her body that can never be reversed.

I've seen numerous instances of depraved degenerates having been let loose on kids as young as kinder gardeners to indoctrinate and sexualize those little kids.

I could go on but I think you get the picture that we live in a sick society where all of these obscenities can only take place because so many adults are supporters of these obscenities, are blissfully and intentionally ignorant of the world they live in or else cowardly acquiesce in order to get along.

There are undoubtedly a wide array of problems in the hockey world but attempting to treat only a few of the symptoms is just putting a band-aid on a much broader and far more serious societal moral bankruptcy.

nah, you clearly just hate the LGBT community and find rare instances of those occurrences happening

while ignoring serious problems in the non-LGBT community... such as hockey, or you know, the catholic church.
